First On The Tee: We’re Asking for Your End-of-Year Input

You know what ‘they’ say about the best-laid plans.

Due to a death in my wife’s family, the past week was spent on the road in Michigan, managing funeral arrangements and managing emotions.

Before we try to recalibrate this week back home, I’ll apologize that we weren’t able to cover the WPIAL postseason action as intended here at PGN. Hopefully we can get back on that this week, but I hesitate to promise anything as I play catch-up.

At any rate, I had planned to use this week’s First On The Tee — and here we are! — to ask you what you’ve thought of the first four months of PGN.

In a perfect world we would’ve rolled out the site at the start of the calendar year and gone from there with a full run-up, but ideas don’t often arrive at the perfect times. As it was, we thought it better to go with a ‘soft open’ this summer instead of waiting until 2021.

It’s my feeling that, despite jumping on a moving treadmill, we did a decent enough job of showing the Pittsburgh golf community what we intend to do. The business folks would call it ‘proof of concept.’ I’d simply say we demonstrated our commitment in helping the sport and its surrounding industry grow in western Pennsylvania.

Personally, the Course Reviews have been my favorite to put together, from talking with pros, GMs and owners to the actual playing of the courses, but I think the mix of Game Improvement stories, PGN Features, Par 4 videos and In The Arena local competition recaps have covered the full breadth of this game.

I’ve also enjoyed dishing more than a little opinion and perspective right here in these Monday posts. While this week will trigger a revised, downshifted coverage schedule as we enter the so-called offseason, I’ll continue to chime at least once a month with more First On The Tee commentaries.

For now, though, it’s your turn.

Please use the comment section below or send us a tweet to @pghgolfnow to let us know what we can do better or differently as we start the preparations for the 2021 season.

Yes, it’s never too early for that, as golf facility proprietors well know! So, go ahead, don’t be shy. We aim to serve the community as best we can.
