Nick Turowski, a sophomore from Penn Trafford, posted an even-par 70 to win the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) 3A Boys’ Golf Individual Final on Tuesday.
Held at the par-70 Nemacolin Country Club in Beallsville, the tournament also advanced 14 of the 36 competitors to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) 3A Individual Championships on Oct. 18-19.
Turowski finished his round with three birdies and seven pars, going bogey-free on the back nine to ultimately win by four strokes. He finished 21st as a freshman at last year’s WPIAL 3A Individual Final, and is the first sophomore since Fox Chapel’s Gregor Meyer in 2016 to claim 3A gold.
Sharing second place were a pair of seniors in Eli Yofan of Fox Chapel and Kyle McClintock of Peters Township. Yofan and McClintock carded four-over 74s to finish runner-up, with Yofan’s round consisting of one birdie and 13 pars, and McClintock firing three birdies and eight pars.

Lebanon’s Zach Dyke, Mars’ Blake Bertolo, and Central Catholic’s Rocco Salvitti all tied for fourth place with scores of 75 (+5), followed by a two-way tie for seventh between South Fayette’s James Cavrak and Central Catholic’s Aidan Burchianti at 76 (+6).
